Interview with M.O. Kenyan

Today's special guest in our Valentine Interview Series is M.O. Kenyan, author of The Mara Song.

Tricia: Thanks for joining us. Can you tell us about yourself and why you decided to be a writer?

M.O.: I am a Kenyan girl who loves to come up with beautiful stories. Love has always fascinated, I always wanted to find out the ‘what’s and the how’s’. Everything I write has to have the element of romance in it, be it plain fiction or fantasy fiction.

Tricia: How would you categorize your romantic writing? (erotic, sensual, sweet)

M.O.: I do them all. But if you ask my mom she would say sweet. There are just something a mother doesn’t need to know.

Tricia: Tell us about your romantic writing.

M.O.: I write short stories, novels, novellas and series.

Tricia: Who is your favorite romance writer?

M.O.: I think we can all agree that the greatest love story is Twilight. The Happily Ever After, Love conquers all elements in it. So my favorite author and one of the reasons I started writing has to be Stephenie Meyer.

Tricia: What are the qualities of a perfect romantic hero?

M.O.: Most people would go for the obvious damsel in distress. But I try to give it a realistic twist. I try and create a character who I wouldn’t mind dating. I’m not the ‘save me’ type. So there has to be a balance in my characters. My perfect romantic hero is human, he does make mistakes, he breaks his girl’s heart, but in the end finds a way to make amends. Sorry no swept off your feet kind of guy, or prince charming.

Tricia: What is your greatest challenge as a romance writer?

M.O.: To make it believable, to able to relate to my readers. As I said I don’t believe in the ‘oh save me’ kind. But sometimes I realize that the guy has to save the day. I try to hold back or separate my reality from the fantasy readers want. That is where music helps. It set the scene. When people read this book I would love for them to listen to TWILIGHT BY COVER DRIVE
