Lori Gordon: Rebel Ink Elite

Welcome to Day Two of the Rebel Elite Holiday Hop. Today's special guest is Lori Gordon... (Don't forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the excerpt!)

ATW: Tell us a little about yourself.

Lori: I live in Northern California with my Husband David. When I’m not reading or writing I work as a retail Supervisor.

ATW: When did you begin writing?

Lori: I started seriously writing in 2005 My first project was 100,000 words of fan fiction using Star Wars as my guide because I had a better idea on how the series should end. From there I used my own characters and the Lost Night Trilogy was born.

ATW: Can you tell us about your most recent publication?

Lori: Jenny Hits the Jackpot was released from Rebel Ink Press as an e-book in October of this year. The best way to describe it is a modern day Scrooge must change his ways to avoid spending his eternity in Hell by making it up to a woman he inadvertently wronged.

ATW: How did you get the idea for the book? .

Lori: The idea came to me when I was at an Indian Casino in Grand Ronde, Oregon with my best friend. We were facing unemployment because our employer decided to sell out to a company who wanted to close the stores in Oregon. (Part of why I ended up back in California) I was sitting at a slot machine called Hearts of Gold. One of the symbols was a couple kissing and I thought what if that hot guy would jump out of their and solve all my problems. I was thinking about winning the jackpot. But when I told my friend, one thing led to another and I promised I’d write the story. It took a little over a year but it was worth every minute I spent on it.

ATW: What was the most challenging aspect of writing your novel?

Lori: Time, because I work in an unpredictable field and never have a set schedule. And Motivation because I am easily distracted by new ideas and have to force myself to finish one before moving to another.

ATW: Which authors have inspired your writing?

Lori: My favorite and the author who started me reading is Nora Roberts. I decided I wanted to be her when I grow up.(Though I think she’s to blame for my POV issues…lol) As a member of the RWA and SVRWA I have also met many authors who have helped me along. I also enjoy reading Karen Robards and Lisa Jackson as well as James Patterson.

ATW: What projects are you currently working on?

Lori: I am currently editing the Lost Night Trilogy. Book one will be released early 2013. I’m also working on another Contemporary.

ATW: Where can my readers go to learn more about your work or to purchase one of your novels?

Lori:   www.ljgordon.com my blog is http://ljgordon.wordpress.com Victim of Circumstances and Jenny hits the Jackpot are available at Amazon, Are, and Barnes & Noble.com My facebook Author page is Lori J Gordon and Twitter is gordon_writer

Excerpt from Jenny hits the Jackpot

Un-fucking-believable. Tyler snorted. “I’m supposed to jump out of the slot machine and into the middle of some woman’s problem?” How stupid do you think I am?

Not recognizing the sarcasm, Damien smiled hugely. “Exactly!”

Tyler couldn’t—wouldn’t—believe this. Did Damien actually expect him to accept he was dead because he’d been successful in his business life, and now he would pay for it by jumping out of a slot machine and straightening out women’s lives? What the Hell did he know about solving women’s problems? When a woman he was dating had a problem, he simply shrugged them off and found another waiting in the wings. This whole nightmare was growing beyond comprehension.

He looked at Damien, studied his red eyes glowing in the dark, and asked, “If, as you say, I’ve made such a mess out of my life why would you trust me to straighten out someone else’s? And what sane woman would ever believe I actually came out of a slot machine to help her? I’m pretty sure I’d be arrested for harassment before being dragged off in a straight jacket.”

Damien just stood there in the hot, dark, desert laughing at him.

Slapping at a giant bug, Tyler grumbled, “I fail to see the humor here.”
